Cosmelan Peel Journey with photos .

Hello Everyone. This is the part two of my cosmelan journey post,(READ PART ONE HERE).

(WARNING, SOME UNCOMFORTABLE SCABBING AND PEELING PHOTOS BELOW, BE WARNED)

So I’d jump right in, Cosmelan is a depigmentation chemical peel that is supposed to help with all kinds of severe hyperpigmentation by reducing and regulating the production of melanin. There’s two types of cosmelan peel, one is the hydroquinone and retinol free version that is sold online, it is not as intense. Then there’s the professional cosmelan peel that can only be done at a medical spa/aesthetic clinic. The Cosmelan I did is a “Professional depigmenting treatment designed to eliminate or reduce dark spots of melanic origin on the skin, while unifying the skin tone and enhancing skin luminosity”.

How this works is this, the cosmelan 1(looks like peanut butter lol) (professional strength contains 8% hydroquinone, retinoic acid, arbutin, azelaic acid, kojic acid, phytic acid), this is left on your face for 8-12 hours, depending on your skin, i left mine for 12 hours. It is painless till you wash off your face and peeling usually starts 2-3 days after, mine started the next day.

From day 3, you’re supposed to cleanse and use cosmelan 2(same ingredients as 1 but 6% HQ not 8), 3 times a day and then use the Hydra k moisturizer by the same brand. I was supposed to do this for 30 days, nothing else, just these 3, but I used too much cosmelan 2 so it only lasted me 2 weeks. My clinic replaced it with 4% HQ pads and retinol and I used that for the last 2 weeks of my first 30 days.

By the start of week 5, i was able to go back to my old routine, use ahas and bhas and my regular cleansers and moisturizers. I still use retinol every night and 4%HQ pads twice a day and would continue that for another 1 month.

OK now that all that information is out, my experience, it is the most intense and painful peel i have ever done. I will not recommend it for anyone that’s not dealing with severe hyerpigmentation like Melasma and hormonal pigment. If you have PIH, you really do not need this, that is my personal opinion. The main peel day was painless but from day 2 till week 3, my face hurt really bad, it was so itchy (the healing wound kind of itch).

With all that being said, this was absolutely worth it, skincare is a very emotional topic for me and this changed my life, for the first time in forever, i saw my skin without the black sun burnt sides.

I will be making a Cosmelan Q&A video for YouTube, so please leave your questions below.

If you have any more questions for me, please drop that in the comment section or send me a dm on instagram @Skinwithabiola, also, I have a cosmelan story highlight on IG with lots of more information, videos and photos.
